bus observations

1. there was a man whose clothes were large enough for two of him. he didn’t seem to be aware of the existence of belts, so he walked holding his pants up with one hand out in front of him. yards of extra fabric. in that moment, he made me think of a victorian lady at a ball. i wonder if he’d still dress that way if he knew.

2. i grew up with national geographic as my glossy window into other cultures. i had a momentary image of a child in a mud hut looking into my life through the pages of a magazine. me, riding a bus. me, typing at the office. what funny clothes she wears. what’s that she’s eating? gross!
